MUNDANE by kaiyel was conceived as an exploration of the beauty, tension, and introspection found in everyday life. It delves into themes of self-reflection, emotional repetition, loneliness, and quiet ambition, highlighting the emotional nuances that exist in the “in-between” moments. The title mundane isn’t meant to imply something boring — instead, it reframes the ordinary as something worth examining and romanticising. Across its 8 tracks, the project paints a picture of what it means to be present in your day-to-day while still dreaming of more. Stylistically, the music blends alternative R&B, rap, and atmospheric production, with kaiyel’s signature poetic lyricism, speaking to listeners who find themselves stuck between growing up and standing still. The whole project was executive produced by Sydney Johnson and features a cohesive sound that mirrors kaiyel’s roots in Scarborough while pushing into broader emotional and sonic territory.
